Have put together a nice full-sized 109G rudder for a collector in Australia - primer only, it will be fixed up by the buyer in the colors and design of his choosing. Biggest challenge is shipping, and finding a way for an oversized item to ship at a reasonable cost.
Several photos reveal that Bartels, like many of the Aces, had more than one rudder with his kill marks on it. Just finished is an example from the field that is different than his well-known white rudder with red kill marks; it's a typical camo background with black kill marks, a wreath and Ritterkreuz. Pictures coming soon. Many Aces, including Bubi Hartmann, had a few aircraft shot out from under them.
Come see this new item in Pungo Virginia this coming weekend!
Just completed- Erwin Clausen's Rudder remade- in full color. I'd been admiring this one for a while- pix coming soon. On display in Pungo, Virginia on 17-19 May.
OK, here are some progress pix for you. First coat of RLM76 is on the vertical stab, rudder, and trim tab, and it's got a convincing shape. Item is pretty BIG! You'd better have a big wall to fit this one! This piece will be on display at the Warbirds over the Beach show, in Pungo, in May. Hope to see you there!
We are going to this event this year! It's one of the great warbird events of any calendar year - here's more info: https://militaryaviationmuseum.org/airshows/wotb/
Come out and see us!
REady for the paint booth. All details starting to come together - rudder is getting covered, control linkages created... and all resin work done. SO ... whose markings will it be? Who would YOU choose?
I'm well into construction - basic shape is complete. It's pretty BIG! There are some unique details on this item, but I'm close to the point of covering the rudder structure, and the vertical tail is also shaped, and looks good. It is a lot like building a modern surfboard - I realized early on that I'm no metal smith.
Today, I chased down some materials to make a fiddly bit or two, which will be challenging. Aircraft fittings will be a challenge as I don't have ready access to examples, so I'll have to beg and borrow some - but so what else is new? Working hard to prep for the Warbirds over the Beach event.
